Dodgeball Tournament

Dodgeball tournament outreach with Bernie Carbo

On Friday night, July 14th, 2006, Urban LIFE held a dodgeball tournament outreach. About 40 teens came to play dodge ball, eat pizza, or hear Bernie Carbo, former professional baseball player who hit two key home runs that propelled the Red Socks to the 7th game of the ’75 World Series. About 30 of these teens were first-time contacts. The Lord kept attitudes exceptionally good throughout the night. The kids seemed to really enjoy playing dodgeball; even some of those who started out not planning to play eventually joined.

After dinner, Bro. Carbo shared the power of Christ’s redeeming love with the youth. Although we had prayed for the Holy Spirit to draw souls to Himself, we were fully expecting to deal with disruptions and chaos during the presentation. However, as Bro. Carbo spoke very frankly, the teens really listened. After he spoke, he asked the teens who would like to get saved to raise their hands. One third to one half did. Five came up to talk about how to be saved, and one came up afterward to say he had received Christ. We are so thankful for the Lord’s work in these teens’ lives!
