Genuine Relationship with Christ
To make an eternal difference, we must first have a vibrant relationship with the One who controls eternity. Once we accept Christ as Savior, we must continue to spend time with Him through Bible reading and prayer so that our service for Him will be through His power.
The ABCs of salvation:
A — Admit that you are a sinner, and repent.
- Romans 3:23—For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. (No one is good enough to please God.)
- Romans 6:23a—For the wages of sin is death;
- Mark 1:15b—Repent ye, and believe the gospel.
- Repentance refers to the decision to go God’s way rather than our own way.
B — Believe the gospel.
- Gospel means “good news.”
- The good news is that God loves us. Jesus, who is God, came to earth to live a sinless life and died in our place. Because He is God, He rose from the dead. Now He is in heaven.
- Romans 5:8—But God commendeth (demonstrated) His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
- We can’t clean up our act enough or be good enough on our own to please God. He died for us “while we were yet sinners.”
- Ephesians 2:8-9—For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.
- If we could do anything enough to get to heaven, we could boast about it. No one can be good enough to get to heaven, so we can praise Jesus for His gift!
- Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6)
C — Call.
- Romans 10:13—For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
- Receive God’s gift of eternal life and salvation from sin by asking God sincerely.
- For example, you could pray, “God, I know I’m a sinner, and I’m sorry. Thank you for sending Jesus to die in my place. I want to receive your gift of salvation. Amen.”
