Tom Asher

Tom Asher, Founder and President

Married to the beautiful Carolyn Asher (his sweetheart),  He has four adorable children: Hannah, Phebe, John Thomas, and Esther

Favorite moments in the ministry: when he walked to represent the father of one of the teens at a high school event, when Rodney graduated from a Christian high school, when four teens made professions of faith after one of the older boys who had been involved with the ministry for several years shared a devotional.

One of his worst moments in urban ministry: when he let one of the high schoolers borrow his car for a few moments and saw him drive by hours later with a car full of people (unfortunately, this happened a few other times as well).

One of the hardest moments in urban ministry: attending the funeral of a teen’s family member who had been shot while sitting on his front porch.

Favorite basketball player: Michael Jordan.

Began working in urban ministry in 1988 and has loved it and been involved with it ever since.

Hobbies: going on dates with his wife and spending individual times with his children, doing outdoor activities, keeping up with the teens who have been part of his ministry and are now adults.

Hobbies are music, kids, organization, and sleep—not a good combo!

Lives in a town of fewer than 300 people

Began participating in urban work with her family when she was 5 years old

Absolutely loves working for Urban LIFE because she’s seen so many teens’ lives changed through God’s work.

Amy says, “Urban LIFE keeps me on my toes. I never know what is going to happen from one day to the next, but I know that God does. I love watching Him bring situations together in totally unexpected ways to accomplish His purposes.”

Hobbies are kids, anything activity, investing in others, and a good time of relaxation.

Lives in the target area

Bob’s first experience in urban ministry was as a teenager with his youth group. They held a VBS in a small urban church in downtown Minneapolis. All through college he worked with urban children in Greenville, South Carolina. In 2008 he became involved with Urban LIFE Ministries through the bus ministry at Tri-City Ministries, and in 2009 he become fully involved with Urban LIFE Ministries.

Bob loves to work with young people and see them change by the power and grace of God. There is nothing greater than to see children or teens be transformed by the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Their face and countenance have a drastic change that is unlike anything else in life.

His greatest memory of the ministry is sitting in his living room and seeing the light come on in the mind and heart of the guys during a Bible study: “I get it; it makes sense.”
